Food Security and Environment Facility Project

The Food Security and Environment Facility (FSEF) project was to support Ghana's efforts to achieve food security through environmentally sound agricultural initiatives in Ghana's three northern regions namely Upper East, Upper West and Northern Regions. It provided funding for local initiatives developed by Ghanaian non-governmental organizations and the private sector in collaboration with Canadian and international organizations. The project was implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD)and other support sectors such as MOFA, EPA and Forestry Commission for various development initiatives geared towards food security in the target areas.The main objective of the project was to improve food security through the application of better environmental management practices and by implementing programs to help increase productivity time and improve livelihoods at Buipe in the Central Gonja District by 2015. Assigned the Central Gonja District to address food security challenges through interventions in three key areas: i) Water resource management, food protection and erosion control along the Black Volta River, ii) Improvement in livelihoods through fsh preservation and marketing and iii) Improved public health management on malaria and HIV/AIDS.
